Anna Quindlen on the importance of bookshelves

I would be most content if my children grew up to be the kind of people who think decorating consists mostly of building enough bookshelves.

~Anna Quindlen, “Enough Bookshelves,” New York Times, 7 August 1991

(I moved out of home into an apartment about a year and a half ago, and bought three new bookshelves. I have already run out of room, and have stacks of books on the floor. I doubt I will ever have enough bookshelves.)

I’m pretty sure this is my idea of decorating and that my children will have no choice but to believe they need bookshelves….everywhere. : )
