On coming back to reading

And I’m back. After a big production week, and a very large sleep debt, I am now trying to get back to normal life. I realised, however, during production week, that I hardly read anything at all. This is very strange, for me, as I reckon I read every single day, even if it is only a chapter or two before bed. People have said to me, ‘how do you find the time to read so much?’ and I ask them how they find the time to do anything they enjoy. If you have time to watch TV, you have time to read. While I was insanely busy last week (just worked out I worked almost 70 hours, not including the time between performances while I was waiting around the theatre) I think it was actually that, for the first time ever, I think, I was not in the right headspace to read.

Sunday, the day after the closing performance, Ben and I went down to his holiday house for the day just to recharge. That morning, while Ben was surfing, I did lots of reading on the beach. And it was really nice. I have three more weeks left at my bookshop, and then I am leaving for a job at the Adelaide Fringe Festival, which I am really excited about. However, I have promised myself a week off between jobs so I can do lots of nice things, like reading on the beach. This year so far has been pretty full on, and I am really looking forward to giving myself a bit of a holiday, even if it is only a holiday where I can read all day if I want to. Until then, I have lots of homework to catch up on! But first, I think I need a nap.
